“Mamma Mia!” Returns to Weathervane Theatre

Breaking Weathervane box office records in 2016, the ultimate feel-good musical returns this September.

WHITEFIELD, NH—The Weathervane Theatre is proud to present the ultimate feel-good musical Mamma Mia!. Sponsored by Bretton Woods Vacations, this blockbuster musical comedy plays in alternating rep at the Weathervane September 3 – October 7, 2023.

 

Mamma Mia! is the mega-hit Broadway show about a daughter’s dream … a mother’s secret … and a trip down the aisle you will never forget! Packed with 22 ABBA tunes including “Dancing Queen,” “Super Trouper,” “Take A Chance on Me,” and “The Winner Takes It All,” this blockbuster will have you dancing in your seats shouting “Gimme! Gimme! Gimme!” more!


Fresh off the Tony-winning Best Musical Kimberly Akimbo, Valerie Wright joins the Weathervane for her first season as director and choreographer of Mamma Mia!


“I am continually inspired by actors and collaboration is a deeply fulfilling experience for me,” said Wright. “From Shakespeare to ABBA, I’ve been so impressed with the performers here and how they bring characters to life in every production. Our show is an absolute blast, but also so sweet—the North Country is going to love it.” 

The cast of Mamma Mia! features Marisa Kirby as Donna Sheridan and Weathervane newcomer Sasha Spitz as her daughter Sophie. Playing Donna’s best gal pals are Grace Livingston Kramer and Debra Thaïs Evans as Rosie and Tanya. The trio of Sophie’s potential dads are Robert H. Fowler (Harry), Ethan Paulini (Bill), and Ira Kramer (Sam). Evan Lilienthal plays Sophie’s fiancé Sky.


Also in the cast are Eric Michael Byers (Pepper), Jorge Donoso (Eddie), Langley Leilani (Ali), Justine So (Lisa), and Patrick John Moran (Father Alexandrios). Making up the ensemble are Jake Bartley, Kimi Handa Brown, Nicole Fluegge, Jaheim Hugan, and Madison Mintzer. Robert H. Fowler is the dance captain.


Mamma Mia! is directed and choreographed by Valerie Wright with music direction by Andrew Morrissey. Mamma Mia! features design by Gibbs Murray (set design), Scout Hough (lighting design and production management), Joseph Rivera (sound design), Rien Schlecht (costume design) and Billy Smith and Kathryn Sutton (properties design). Additional creative team: Pyper K Williams (scenic charge), Camden Dalie Keech (technical director), Nick Prazniak (master carpenter), Egypt Dixon (production stage manager), Whitley Body (assistant stage manager) and Emma Aldrich Jordan (assistant stage manager).


Mamma Mia! is performed with a live band conducted by Andrew Morrissey. Band members include Scott Black (Keys 2), Scott Cramer (Keys 4) Andrew Morrissey (Keys 1), AC Muench (Bass), Ben Natti (Guitar), Mitch Perrins (Drums), and Rien Schlecht (Keys 3).


Performed to in person audiences only, masks are not required, but always welcomed. The theatre has a new HVAC/Air Purification System that filters the air and provides heat and air conditioning. 


Mamma Mia! opens Sunday, September 3rd and runs in alternating repertory through Saturday, October 7th. Recommended for ages 12+, Mamma Mia! runs two hours and 15 minutes with one 15 minute intermission and contains adult humor.  

Weathervane’s 58th rep season runs now – October 14. Additional productions include A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Guys and Dolls, and Primary. Single tickets available at www.weathervanenh.org. Season 58 tickets start at $19. 

The Weathervane Box Office is open on performance days 10AM – 12PM and again 2 hours before performance time through curtain. On days with two Mainstage performances, the box office is open 10AM through the evening curtain. The Weathervane Theatre was founded in 1965 by Gibbs Murray and the late Tom Haas and is under the leadership of Producing Artistic Director Ethan Paulini. For over half a century, it has presented high quality professional productions of plays and musicals.
