Weathervane Theatre to Present North Country Shakes: Shakespeare in Love (And Laughter)

WHITEFIELD, NH—Weathervane Theatre is pleased to present North Country Shakes: Shakespeare in Love (And Laughter) June 20 – 30. Presented on Weathervane’s outdoor stage, this FREE programming will play at 6 PM on June 20, 21, and 26 and at 5 PM on June 27 and 30. 

 

North Country Shakes is an educational and artistic opportunity for students throughout Coös County and surrounding areas to experience Shakespeare as it’s meant to be experienced—seen and not read. Helmed by Jorge Donoso, this new and original adaptation of Shakespeare’s works will bring audiences to the Weathervane’s outdoor stage. 

 

Shakespeare In Love (And Laughter) combines the Bard’s most romantic scenes and highlights the hilarious language within them. From Ferdinand and Miranda’s awkward first encounter in The Tempest to Malvolio’s “letter prank” in Twelfth Night, this promises a hysterical evening suitable for the whole family and the dog! Representing a wide variety, the cast of North Country Shakes features members of the local community and Weathervane Theatre’s 2025 Resident Acting Company. The cast includes Ophelia Beebe, Alton Bradbury, Claudia Canuto, Josie Cromer, Morgan Forest, Baylee Fuentes, Chloe Gagnon, Nolo Gonzalez, Kansas Lynch, Nora Jellison, Brooke Lavoie, Nora McCann, Mack McCloud, Mick St. Cyr, Deb Stinehour, Violet Streivig, Carrington Tetreault, Joshua Thompson, and Ria Yamdagni.

 

“It’s always a blast to direct local talent, along with members of our intern and professional companies,” said Donoso. “It’s the perfect opportunity to connect with the season’s ensemble before the MainStage shows kick off. I’m always amazed by how many audience members turn out to support our North Country Shakes cast. It’s a true testament to how much the community values this initiative and the incredible people that make it happen.”

 

A fully realized production, North Country Shakes is written and directed by Jorge Donoso. It also features designs by Rien Schlecht (costumes and set), Connor von Rentzell  (sound), and Gabbie Flores (props). Stage management by TessaMarie Beard and technical direction by Vero Villalobos. 

 

North Country Shakes is FREE, and no reservations are required. Seating will begin thirty minutes before the performance, and patrons are encouraged to bring their own blankets or chairs. Chairs are available upon request and on a first-come, first-served basis. The bar featuring beer, wine, and snacks will be open one hour before showtime. If a show is canceled due to rain, it will be announced on Weathervane’s social media platforms. 

 

Weathervane’s 60th season opens June 25, 2025, and runs through October 12, 2025. Season productions include Alanis Morissette’s Jagged Little Pill: The Musical, The Shark is Broken, Becoming Dr. Ruth, Grease, Waitress, One Man, Two Guvnors, Honky Tonk Angels, Dirty Blonde, The Tempest, and Mel Brooks’ The Producers. ABOUT THE WEATHERVANE

The Weathervane Theatre was founded in 1965 by Gibbs Murray and the late Tom Haas and is under the leadership of Producing Artistic Director Ethan Paulini. It has presented high-quality professional productions of plays and musicals for over half a century.
