WHITEFIELD, NHNew Hampshire’s award-winning Weathervane Theatre is pleased to announce it will present RENT the groundbreaking musical that redefined a generation. Brilliant and messy, this all-new production of the beloved musical will open on July 15th.

Set against the gritty pulse of New York City’s East Village, RENT is a revolutionary portrait of love, loss, and hope. Based loosely on Puccini’s La Boheme, Jonathan Larson’s Pulitizer Prize-winning and electrifying rock musical follows a group of young artists chasing love, identity, and creative freedom amid the AIDS crisis. Bursting with heart, humor, and urgency, RENT celebrates connection and chosen family, powered by unforgettable songs like “Seasons of Love,” “La Vie Bohème,” and “Take Me or Leave Me.”

Weathervane’s Producing Artistic Director, Ethan Paulini, will direct the production. Now in his eleventh season with the Weathervane, the Drama Desk, Off-Broadway Alliance, and Drama League nominee is the director of acclaimed and award-winning Weathervane productions of Cabaret and Everybody’s Talking About Jamie, as well as crowd-pleasing hits Sister Act and Jersey Boys.

“RENT is quite simply my favorite musical. I can remember being 15 years old and seeing the original cast on Broadway. To say it became a seminal piece in my development as a theatre artist would certainly be underselling the impact it has had on me,” said Producing Artistic Director Ethan Paulini. “To be able to work on this show in a place I love with so many artists I admire will be an all-time career highlight. Jonathan was deeply in tune with the struggle that artists face. 30 years later, these words ring more true than ever and I am humbled to be ensuring the continuation of his legacy.”

Performing in alternating repertory, RENT runs July 15 – August 8, 2026. Special events for RENT include an opening night champagne reception following the August 8th performance, where patrons can mix and mingle with the cast and creative team.

Subscriptions and single tickets for RENT are on sale now at weathervanenh.org. Casting and additional creative team will be announced this spring. RENT is sponsored by Bretton Woods Vacations.
