WHITEFIELD, NH—Weathervane Theatre is pleased to present North Country Shakes: Special Villains Unit, June 24 – July 2. Presented on Weathervane’s outdoor stage, this FREE programming will play at 5 PM on June 24-27 and June 29 – July 2.

North Country Shakes is an educational and artistic opportunity for students throughout Coös County and surrounding areas to experience Shakespeare as it’s meant to be experienced—seen and not read. Helmed by Jorge Donoso, this new and original adaptation of Shakespeare’s works will bring audiences to the Weathervane’s outdoor stage.

Shakespeare’s most notorious characters take the spotlight in this playful one-of-a-kind adventure that explores what really drives the Bard’s villains—and whether their choices were ultimately worth it.

Discover why the hot-headed Tybalt can’t stand Romeo, why the brave MacDuff seeks revenge against Macbeth, and who killed Ophelia. Packed with fun dialogue, pop music, and Shakespearean flair, this journey into the villains’ world just might reveal something surprising: maybe—just maybe—they can find a path to redemption.

The cast of North Country Shakes features youth members of the local community. The cast includes Ophelia Beebe, Alton Bradbury, Ellie Bradbury, Josie Cromer, Morgan Forest, Nolo Gonzalez, Jaye Groves, Nora Jellison, Brooke Lavoie, Kansas Lynch, Gaia Kennedy, Violet Streivig, Carrington Tetreault, and Nora Woodson.

North Country Shakes is the perfect way to kick off each season,” said Donoso. “It brings together a talented ensemble of young local performers who are passionate about the arts and eager to explore Shakespeare. Every year, we welcome both returning members and new faces, and one of my favorite parts of the process is watching this young ensemble grow together—learning from one another, building friendships, and ultimately sharing their talents with the hundreds of audience members who come out to support them.”

A fully realized production, North Country Shakes is written and directed by Jorge Donoso. It also features scenic design by Christa LeBlanc, properties design by Cass Burgess, and design supervision by Rien Schlecht. Stage management by Aasrith Veerapaneni and production management by Jeremy Baldauf and AP Pikiben

North Country Shakes is a FREE pet and family-friendly event, and no reservations are required. Seating will begin thirty minutes before the performance, and patrons are encouraged to bring their own blankets or chairs. Chairs are available upon request and on a first-come, first-served basis. The bar featuring beer, wine, and snacks will be open one hour before showtime. If a show is canceled due to rain, it will be announced on Weathervane’s social media platforms.

Weathervane’s 61st season opens June 26, 2026, and runs through October 11, 2026. Season productions include tick, tick…BOOM!, Noël Coward’s Private Lives, Rent, Xanadu, Come From Away, Peter Pan Goes Wrong, Glock 17., Putting it Together, Paperboy, and Anything Goes.
